This rectangular fragment of Liao samite, compound twill weft-faced on both sides, has a roundel pattern that most likely includes one phoenix (one wing and tail remain intact), which is very similar to an embroidered phoenix roundel from the Liao dynasty. The pattern is outlined in white, woven with wefts in a proportion of 13, purple for the ground, and yellow, white and red for the pattern. The diameter would be about 6.3 cm. The non-patterned area is woven with a proportion of 11, purple for the surface, green for the back.
