Wen Cheng-ming was accomplished in both painting and calligraphy, and in the latter, he took the style of Shen Chou ad his model. Living to the venerable age of 89, his extant works are quite numerous. In this letter is a poem composed by Wen Cheng-ming in gratitude for a gift of Mandarin oranges, which ripen in autumn, from an elder friend. The style of the calligrahy and writing reflects the elegant manners and styles of the ancients.
