Eight treasures are depicted at the base of the stûpa: ling-chih (auspicious fungus), cora1, rhinocerous horn, the flaming jewe1, coins, a bat representing prosperity and money symbolizing wealth, castanets, and double rings. The stûpa is divided into seven tiers and is covered completely with the text of the Lotus Sûtra except for parts left blank at the base which form the characters for "the Lotus Sûtra Stûpa." There are five niches on each tier, and the central niche reflects the content of the text. In ascending order from the lowest to the highest tier, the central niches are depictions of the Buddha Shàkyamuni, Shàkyamuni and Prabhûtarama, Buddhas of the past, the seven-tiered jewelled stûpa, the parturitions of Shàkyamuni (his many manifestations), the Buddha Dîpamkara, and the Buddha Amitàbha. The names of the buddhas are written on the colorful banners on the ridges of each tier.
