This entire composition is evocative of a peaceful and auspicious atmosphere. Despite the snow, the plum blossoms are in full bloom, and the bamboo is very green. This is a scene announcing the coming of spring. This painting bears neither signature nor seals of the artist, and it was formerly attributed to a Yüan dynasty artist. According to the style, however, this painting must be by a follower of Pien Wen-chin and Lü Chi. It seems that it might even be by Yin Hung, an artist who was active during the late Hung-chih period (1488-1505).
