He was an important collector and connoisseur, and his broad experience with ancient paintings laid a foundation for his own art. Hsiang painted landscapes, plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo and rocks, and his landscapes after the Yüan painters Huang Kung-wang and Ni Tsan.This painting depicts graceful orchids grow from behind a rock. It is done in monochrome ink. Its elegant brushwork indicated the style of literati painting.
