He holds a vase in his left hand and from it spews reddish light beaming directly up to the sky above. In front of the chair is a stand, on which are a flower arrangement and an incense burner. Off to the side of the table is a figure holding a treasure box as an offering.The coloring here is bright and beautiful with drapery lines that flow freely. The brushwork is precise and meticulous, while the phoenix and floral patterns of the clothing for both figures as well as embroidered cloth draped over the flower stand are all painted with exceptional detail, not to mention the straw mat and wood grain of the meditation chair. Even the hair of the figure making an offering is rendered exceptionally fine. The degree of painstaking precision here is comparable to Liu Songnian’s lohan paintings, suggesting that the date of this work is probably close to this artist.(20101015)
