He specialized in figure and landscape painting, following after Shen Chou and Wen Cheng-ming, and also studying the dense landscape style of Wang Meng. Mt. T’ien-ch’ih is located 15 kilometers to the west of Soochow. Located there is the Shu-chien Temple, built in the Yüan dynasty. The mountain is famous for unusual rocks and precipitous cliffs, being known as one of the scenic spots in the area. Depicted here area peaks and a winding mountain path. Before the temple is a steep valley with tall mountains behind. The light coloring gives the dense composition an elegant feel. Tianchi, located about 15 kilometers west of Suzhou, features unusual peaks and cliffs, also being home to the Jijian Temple built in the Yuan dynasty. Wen Boren cleverly used the style of the old master Juran to depict this scenic area near Suzhou. He employed long hemp-fiber texture strokes to distinguish the mountain forms, the edges of the slopes being lined with layers of trees and the mountain ridges decorated with small rock forms known as alum lumps, making Mt. Tianchi appear dense and solid. The small path below the cliff at the right near the foreground winds tortuously, leading the viewer in front of the majestic temple standing next to the large area of rocky cliffs. On the mountain path behind the temple walks a person, while a house with a thatched fence is located to the left as well. This work from 1558 is both majestic and detailed, making it a masterpiece of Wen’s middle years. It also shows how Wen Boren expressed himself beyond the style of the Yuan master Wang Meng.(20100713) 网页展示说明 天池山は苏州の西方15kmに位置しており、奇石が切り立つ山中には、元代に建立された寂鉴寺がある。文伯仁は巨然の画风を巧みに取り入れてこの苏州の名胜を描いた。长い披麻皴を用いて山を分割し、斜面の縁に重なり连なる树木を配し、山の尾根に矾头などの小さな岩石を加え、天池山の重厚さを高めている。また、近景右侧に见える崖下の小道は、うねうねと曲がりくねって、観る物の视线を大きな石壁の傍らにある寺庙へと向かわせる。寺庙?の山道を行く人々のほか、左侧には垣根のある家屋も配置されている。この1558年の作品は细かな描写と気势を兼ね备えており、正しく文伯仁中年期の佳作である。王蒙の画风以外の探求や表现も见られる。(20100713)
