The son of the court painter-official Tung Pang-ta (1699-1769), he served as a Grand Academician. Father and son were known as Tung Sr.and Jr. In this painting are several tall, straight, and verdant evergreens. Below them lies a pavilion built by the shore and, behind, a stone cliff rises precipitously in the shade of the trees. This work describes a midsummer scene as travelers rest in the streamside pavilion shaded by evergreens or sit in a cavern. Several good friends have gathered together to chat and while away the summer heat. This is the third leaf from Album of Ten Summer Landscapes.
