In paintings of this scale, artists can take one of several approaches: they can strive to create carefully wrought, detailed brushwork, or they can opt for looser handling of ink. As one album may contain many leaves, the artist is given the opportunity to develop one theme in many different directions.This particular leaf is the fifth from the album Anonymous Flower and Bird Paintings. The artist has adopted a free interpretation of resemblance in limning this pair of mynas on their lofty perch. Brush and ink are evenly paced, neither hurried nor slow; the composition, simple yet carefully thought out, is weighted tower the lower right corner of the painting.
