He belonged to the Plain Yellow Banner of the Han Army. Nephew to the finger painter Gao Qipei, he rose to the rank of Right Transportation Commissioner and excelled at painting landscapes, figures, birds-and-flowers, and fruits-and-vegetables. This album depicts 24 scenes in color of buildings in the Kunlun mountains. The left leaves are Ji Huang's transcriptions from the novel Record of the Ten Continents, which includes descriptions of scenery at Kunlun. Stretching east-west in China's west, Kunlun was the seat of the Hunyuan School of Daoism in the late Ming and one of China's most mystical mountains.
