Widely learned, Qian achieved scholarship in the fields of the Classics and history, language and etymology, as well as books and documents. In terms of Bronze and Stele textual studies, he was considered to be a leading figure of his time, his Complete Texts of the Qianyan Hall testifying to his breadth of learning. This couplet, which mentions paying careful attention to and devoting oneself to studies, reveals Qian’s cultivation in clerical script as well, showing how he forged change in the character force of Han dynasty steles.(20120409)
